For example, the river Ganges in India has a myth behind it. Long ago, god Brahma was looking down upon earth and he saw a great big fire in the world. Immediately,he looked for help and the goddess Ganga came to the rescue. She turned her self into a cascading storm and quenched the fire. God Shiva knew that godess Ganga wasn't only going to quench the fire, but going to flood the earth. Shiva came down to earth even faster than Ganga and stood firmly on the groud. The water rained on top of him and spiltted its self into seven bits.Shiva's hair is shaped like the map of India. Varanasi is a country in India which is built on top of the river Ganges, people go there for pilgrimage and get baptised.
