Maple Class Trip to The Wetlands Centre

On Thursday 24th of October we visited the Wetlands Centre.First we explored the centre and looked at its amazing animals.

Then we went to the Explore Adventure Playground,it had only few things but we had many physical things to do.

We took part in a workshop with a member of the Wetlands Centre called Paul Lawston.Guess what?! We met Justin Beaver who is a star at the Wetlands Centre. We also saw a dead bat!

Then, after seeing the bat, we played a game called Echolocation. You had to form a circle with other people in your class, then one person would be blindfolded. A gap would be made in the circle and the 'bat' would have to try and find the gap in the circle. The 'bat' would find its way by saying echo. If they are facing someone the person they are facing would have to say echo. When the bat is facing the gap and they say echo, the gap won't respond. The bat wins when they have successfully escaped from the cave (circle).

He gave us a little tour on the Wildside. We saw watervole poop and sadly the numbers of the watervole are decreasing rapidly due to being eaten by minks, a close relative of the ferret and weasel.

After that we went to the Discovery Area which had many interesting things to do,like stopping a town from flooding, shoot the good bacteria into the bad bacteria's mouth and make the rain flow so that the Wetlands would return...

We had lots of fun on our trip and hope to have many more...
