VE DAY

VE (Victory in Europe) day is celebrated on the 8th May, which is the day WWII ended in 1945. This year is special as it is 75 years since the end of the Second World War.

The end of the war was a victory over Nazi Germany after 6 years of fighting and millions of lives lost. Everyone joined in, there were street parties with music and dancing and people hung red white and blue bunting on their houses. The Royal Family appeared 8 times on the balcony and Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret were allowed to sneak outside to be with the crowds outside Buckingham Palace. They joined in with the people shouting "We want the King".
