What is classification?

Classification is when you put animals into groups. For example if an animal is warm blooded, or has feathers, or lays eggs/ gives birth to new babies.

A dog would be grouped with a lion because they are the same shape as each other. They both give birth to babies and they both have fur.

But! With a duck and a fly they wouldn't go in the same animal group even though they both have wings and both lay eggs. They are not quite the same because a duck has 2 legs and a fly has 6 legs. A duck has feathers. Does a fly have feathers? NO IT DOES NOT! So they belong in the same animal group.
