Ashmount’s Year 6 hockey team couldn't retain the Islington Quicksticks Hockey championship losing in the final 2-0 to Canonbury Primary.

17 teams gathered at the Sobell Centre in January, with the schools split into three groups. Our side played St Joan Of Arc Primary in their first game and came through with a narrow 1-0 victory thanks to Han. Next up were Prior Weston and we got into the swing of things winning 4-0 (Han 2, Ella and Archie).

The winning continued with convincing victories over Pakeman 5-0 (Han 2, Archie and Stephane), and New North 5-0 (Archie 2, Stephane 2 and Han). Drayton Park were our final group opponents and despite going a goal behind early on we recovered well to win 3-1 (Han, Archie and Stephane). With time running out for the final stages, a decision was made to come back to play the semi finals and final.

We returned to play William Tyndale and flew into a 4-0 half time lead thanks to goals from Han (2) and Archie (2). William Tyndale to their credit fought back to make it 4-3 but we held on to secure a final place.

Here we took on Canonbury who started well by taking the lead. We tried to find the equaliser but were pegged back and soon Canonbury doubled their lead. With time running out we pushed forward hoping to pull a goal back which we nearly did, but as the final whistle blew, Canonbury were deserved champions, and now go onto the represent Islington in the London Youth Games.

Well done to all the squad, and despite not winning the children played fantastically well and were a credit to to the school, continuing our excellent record in the competition which has seen the school appear in the final for the last three years.

Squad :- Henrietta (captain), Jodie, Ella, Han, Archie and Stephane.
