MY INJURED BUNNY

I will still remember the day I found my best friend.

At the crack of dawn, the birds sung around the verdant garden and the delicate butterflies flew around the garage. I never knew why, I always thought that my garage was boring. I layed on my bed and listened carefully to the beautiful sounds around me. I am Scarlett Amber Perkins and I am 10 years old, I live with my mum, dad, my younger brother Raviit who’s 2 and a half and my gran. She has always lived with us, I don’t know why. I love animals so much, I always ask for a rabbit for my birthday, but my family either ignore me or shout at me. My family act as if I am nothing to them. I hate it so much. Ever since Raviit came along all they care about is him. In the summer, I always listen to the animal sounds, that's what I am doing right now. I personally think my bedroom is the best in the house because my window looks straight towards the garden, looking towards the wildlife. I am the only person who likes nature and animals in my house. After I listened to the birds I heard a loud noise. It was quite muffled, and really strange.

I crept downstairs, making sure that nobody could hear me. I felt empty. I ran outside to the garage. I was slightly afraid. Was it a deadly fox who was going to take me? I tried not to be so scared about it. After 3 I opened the garage. 1.2.3. I stopped, paused then I clapped with joy! I noticed a little baby bunny in the corner. I went closer then I realized it was injured, seriously injured in fact. Her little leg was all teared with blood oozing out. I went rather dizzy. It was awful.“Here, here little bunny. Don’t worry I will look after you.” I explained patting him gently on the back. I could tell that the poor bunny was trying to escape. I decided to call the bunny “Nibbles”. I found a little, clean bin in the garage so I placed Nibbles into it carefully and put the lid on top camly, adding a few holes. I crept quickly upstairs and wrapped some bandages around him. I felt so sorry for her. I decided to keep it a secret. My family can’t know otherwise they will go mad and ground me for nearly the rest of my life and even my friends can’t know it would be like dominoes because if I tell 1 friend that friend will tell another friend then that friend will tell another friend and then the whole school will find out.

When it was dinner, I didn’t quite know what to do because I couldn’t leave Nibbles on her own. So, in that case, I brought my dinner upstairs, giving Nibbles my broccoli and carrots. It was almost bedtime and I was so tired, even nibbles was tired. I placed nibbles in the bin and then into my old, but large wardrobe. I patted and stroked him on the back.

“Goodnight Nibbles, have a great sleep.” I secretly whispered. I took lots of care of her, and I placed a little baby microphone in the bin and another by my bed so I could hear her if there was a problem. Afterwards I got into my bed and slept. Early in the morning, I opened my wardrobe and grabbed the bin.

“ Oh no! ahhh!” I screamed.

The bin was not there! Neither was Nibbles. I ran downstairs into the kitchen and I realized, in about 1-2 minutes, the bin truck was arriving.

“Mum, did you like erm… possibly take my erm.. bin? I just wanna know I I I just want it because I err.. have something… Oh yeah I have an apple I need to put in please.” I mumbled, hoping she would give it back.

“Scarlett, stop mumbling. If you need to put an apple in the bin then use this one!” My mum explained, pointing at the kitchen bin.

“I need MY bin because I think, I think I erm left my homework in it, my maths one you know the one about ordering decimals.

“Scarlett, stop it! your homework is in your school bag. I saw! Now, the bin truck is coming in 30 seconds so go away Scarlett.” My mum shouted pushing me away.

“Mum can I have some sweeties?” Raviit asked.

“Of course you can my darling help yourself.” said my mum opening the sweetie draw.

“ Can I?” I asked.

“No Scarlett, you don't need any.

”My mum snapped. At that very moment my mum went to her bedroom, so did Raviit. I could see the bin opposite me. I grabbed the bin and ran up to my room.

“Yes!” I said smiling with joy.

I took Nibbles out of the bin and stroked him carefully. He was shaking so rapidly I almost wanted to drop him, but I didn’t. Luckly. I decided to put Nibbles in a box and then put the bin back downstairs.“Phew!” I gasped, throwing myself into my bed. I started thinking. I was thinking about what I was going to do with Nibbles. I couldn’t keep him because my family will go mad. And I can’t keep it a secret because my family is bound to find out. I started groaning, so did Nibbles. I placed her onto my lap stroking her until she fell asleep. A tear ran down my eye. A sad tear. It ran all the way down my old, ripped jeans and splatted right on Nibbles. The next morning, I realized I hadn't hidden Nibbles overnight. He was next to me, but there was a little letter next to her. It said: Scarlett, what on earth do you think you were doing, bringing a deadly creature into MY house? This is completely ridiculous. I am definitely going to not let you have any play dates for 3 years and 6 months. I think you have learned you lesson. You stupid girl. What were you thinking? from your kind mum. (I don’t think you deserve kisses.)I was gobsmacked. I guess it was goodbye to Nibbles. I started crying. I decided to write a letter to my mum.Mum,i am so sorry. I didn’t realize that you would be so angry about it. I have just always adored bunny’s and animals. I know you don’t from what you tell me everyday. I have decided to leave the house. I am getting sick of my family (no offence). I think it's for the best.Goodbye x

I felt good after that, but still sad. I took that letter to my mums room quickly so I wouldn’t see anybody, then I ran to my bedroom. I went outside with Nibbles and left him there and I walked back in up to my bedroom. I searched online for some cheap local hotels and I found a great one called “Premier inn” it was just up the road. I started packing, but then my mum came in. “What?” I asked “You're leaving home?” She replied“I thought you wouldn’t mind.”

“Wouldn’t mind!? Scarlett you're my daughter.

”She came and sat on my bed right where I was packing.

“I am so sorry sweetie.”

“It’s ok mum. I just love that bunny so much.”

“You can keep it, if you want.”

“Really!”

“Yes. Its my sorry present, you deserve to keep it!”We both hugged at smiled.I went outside to get Nibbles. I could tell he was happy about it, even though he couldn’t speak. I bought him inside and my mum actually stroked him! So did Dad, Raviit and my gran! I went to pets home with my mum to buy a rabbit cage and some food and toys. It cost £45 and my mum paid for everything. It felt like my birthday! Afterwards we went home and all had a cup of tea and some scones with jam and cream! It was the best year i think i have ever had! THE END
