Crouch End Festival Futsal Tournament

In conjunction with the Crouch End Festival a Futsal tournament (football, but played with a heavier ball, so it stays on the ground, enabling more touches for players) for local schools was held at the Crouch Arts Centre. The competition which consisted of mainly Haringey schools was played in an indoor hall, with matches 4 aside. To go with the South American theme each school was allocated a South American country and ours was Uruguay.

First up were St Marys N8 (Bolivia) who took an early lead, but we soon kicked into gear and ran out 11-1, with Jordan (4), Stephane 3) and Han (3).The rules were pretty much standard football rules, along with a golden two minute period, where for two minutes during the game whilst there was music being played goals counted as two. We took full advantage of that scoring 3 times during the music.

Next up were Coleridge B (Colombia) and we ended up winning 7-2, with our three boys all on the scoresheet again. The final fixture was against Campsbourne Primary (Brazil) and another victory as we won 4-0 with Han scoring all four.

So from here it was onto the semi-final and our toughest game of the day as we took on Coleridge A (Mexico). The game of the day by far with two evenly matched sides really going for it saw us take an early lead when Han scored. Coleridge fought back and soon equalised. Then in the Golden minutes we went 3-1 ahead as Stephane scored. With seconds left of the music Coleridge were awarded a penalty, which first Sid saved but it was retaken and converted which left the game in the balance at 3-3. But thankfully we had the final say as Han scored again to seal a brilliant 4-3 win, against our neighbours from Haringey.

So the final saw us take on Campsbourne again who in their ranks had a fantastic female player and despite scoring she couldn’t handle our attack as we won 6-2, with Han, Jordan and Stephane all on the score sheet again. A very pleasing ending to a great day. The children were all outstanding the two girls Zoe and Tanya stood firm and played with skill and strength, whilst the boys from Sid who made some crucial saves and our three stars, Han, Jordan and Stephane were a joy to watch. A final thank you to the parents for taking their time out on Saturday to come and support their children, it helped!

Squad: - Sid, Jordan, Han, Stephane, Zoe and Tanya.
