Introduction

First things

first, I was a normal insignificant eleven-year-old named Skye. I had a Mother

(Lara)and Father (Matt). We had a house in the countryside near a forest that

was perfect for our family. I was also homeschooled as there wasn’t a school

nearby. As far as anyone knew, we were a nice, normal family- that was until I became fascinated by a powerful and destructive mythic being. I loved dragons. So much so that I drew pictures of all kinds of different breeds from fire to

crystalline, ice to gemstone. I even pretended to be one, soaring gracefully in

the air knowing that nothing could stop me. I spent day and night dreaming

wonderful dreams about them, wishing it would last forever.

The Day I Grew The Wings

One beautiful morning, I was basking in the mid-summer sunshine- thinking about the blueprint for artificial dragon’s wings I had created the night before – I had felt two strange growths on my back. I hadn’t told my parents about it though as I am terrified of the hospital. A few hours later, I noticed that they

looked like tiny dragon’s wings. Red, scaly dragon’s wings that shimmered in

the sun. A little while longer, I could flap them a couple of times and I would

rise about a foot off the ground. I couldn’t believe it; it was a dream come

true! Midday came and I tried to learn how to fly. I climbed up a tree, as I

was a brilliant tree climber, stretched my wings and leaped into the air. I was

flying! Actually flying! I did quite a good landing afterward (for an amateur,

trust me it wasn’t perfect) and I rushed indoors to tell my mum. “Mum! Where

are you!” I shouted.

“I’m doing laundry Skye, what do you need!” she replied.

I bellowed,

“Come outside, I need to show you something!”

She walked into the garden and when saw the wings on my back she gasped in shock.

“How did you get those wings?” she questioned, “Can you actually fly with them?”

“I don’t know and yes,” I answered, “I can show you if you want.” So, I flapped my wings a couple of times and I gracefully rose into the air. My mum was astonished. In fact, she thought it was a dream, so she went back inside and continued doing the laundry.

The Disappearances

My dad, who worked abroad, finally found the time to come back home and see me and mum. I was overjoyed to see him again and he was too. I told him about the wings and when I showed him, he was so shocked that he turned pale as a sheet. Sadly, it didn’t last long as he had to leave again the next day.

Although, that very day, our neighbors, who usually go for a morning stroll, never left the house. They weren’t seen the next day either. They weren’t seen for quite a few days: I decided to tell mum. After that we decided to knock on the front door to see if they were home. We knocked… and we knocked… and we knocked, until our knuckles were sore, so we shouted, “Hello! Is anyone home!” Nobody answered so we went back home.
