City States

Ancient Sparta was ruled by two kings.The Spartans did not use coins like other Greeks. They used iron bars as money for it is powerful army as well as its battles with other city states. Sparta was one of the most

powerful city states in ancient Greece. Highly disciplined and trained

to be warriors from a young age, Spartans were one of the most feared military forces in the greek world.

People living in Ancient Greece did not think of themselves as Greek but as citizens

of their city state. For example somebody from ancient Sparta would say that they

were "Spartan" rather than "Greek".

Many of these cities, such as Rhodes, Thebes, and Corinth were also important cities during roman Empire.
