Miss Eliot

The first time we see Miss Eliot is in Chapter 1 when she comes to Charles' house and she seems very strict and serious. She doesn't like the fact that Sophie isn't neat and wears 'boys' clothes, "Miss Eliot was shocked; and 'Girls', she said, 'don't wear trousers' ". She is also very old fashioned, "I may be old-fashioned but i think buttons do matter'. She isn't very maternal and doesn't think Sophie should look for her mother.

Sophie describes Miss Eliot's voice "like a window slamming shut", which tells us that it is loud and sharp. She is very disapproving and rude and doesn't like anything about Charles, "You cannot let her wear that, people will think she is deranged". In my opinion I don't like her and i hope Sophie stays with Charles.
