Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday 2019 is on Tuesday 5th March and it can also be called Pancake Day.

Why do we celebrate Shrove Tuesday?

Shrove Tuesday is the first day of Lent. Shrove Tuesday is a Christian festival celebrated in many countries across the globe. It falls on the Tuesday before the beginning of Lent – a period of around six weeks leading up to Easter.

During Lent, Christians give up luxuries to remember when Jesus went into the desert for 40 days to fast and pray.

What do people do to celebrate Shrove Tuesday?

Lots of people make pancakes (LOTS OF THEM). They are delicious. This is done all around the world so you don’t need to be a Christian to celebrate this special day. Mostly, Shrove Tuesday is known for pancakes so some people call it Pancake Day!
