The Blueberry Bear

One day, a very, very, very long time ago, there lived an old witch. Now the witch wasn’t a mean witch, she was a kind witch, and instead of using her powers to turn people into frogs, she made people happy. One day, the witch was walking in the forest when she saw a blue bear who smelt of blueberries. The bear was missing his left ear and the stuffing was coming out of his legs. Now, as I mentioned before, the witch was very kind, so she took the bear back to her home. Then she got out her sewing kit and began to sew, very carefully, until the bear who smelt like blueberries was all better. Agatha (the witch) could do anything, so she decided to use her day’s wish on making the bear who smelt like blueberries come alive!

Agatha and Blueberry Bear spent many weeks together, chatting, cooking and sewing. On the fourth week of them being together they heard a loud scream! It was a Sunday morning, so they were having a little lie-‐in, but they both woke up in a flash. Agatha knew that scream. She knew it very well, as that was the scream that had killed her husband. “What was that?” Blueberry Bear trembled. “Quick!” whispered Agatha, “We have to get out of here!”

They knew that it wasn’t safe to open their door, as the scream would kill them instantly, so they dug. They dug and they dug and they dug, until all they could see was darkness. “Lumos Maxima!” cried the witch, lighting her wand up so they could see. They had dug so deep that neither of them knew where they were. All either of them wanted was to find a new house and start a new life, away from all the screams. So they started to dig straight up and you can not imagine how much filthy dirt they got in their eyes, but they kept on going. They didn’t know how long they had been digging, for there was neither night nor day in those tunnels.

Suddenly, they reached a big rock! There was a shiny, yellow hoop on it, which they pulled and pulled and pulled. Very, very slowly the ring came out of the rock. “Oh no! We’ll be stuck here for ever!” Agatha cried. But Blueberry Bear still had a little hope left in him, despite all that had happened that day. “Wait! What does that say?” he said, looking at the ring. “What does what say?” the witch replied glumly. “The ring! Let me have it! Look Agatha, the ring has a message on it!” So Blueberry Bear read it out. “LICK ME!” said the puzzled bear, and so he did. Suddenly the ring sprang open! Bits of the ring went flying everywhere and then, out popped a fairy. She looked rather pleased with herself, and said in a nice fairy voice, “I will grant you any wish you like!” “We want to be together always, no matter what,” the witch said firmly. “Is that all?” asked the fairy, turning to go. “No!” said Blueberry Bear quickly, “we want you to get us out of here!” So she did, and they all lived happily every after.
