What Is Democracy?

We live in a democratic country.

This means that the people have a say in the way that the country is run.

In two weeks time we have a general election.

This means that anybody who is over 18 has the right to vote for who we think will be the best to run our country(Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, UKIP, and Labour.) At the moment our Prime Minister is David Cameron.

In Parliament there are two separate houses. The House of Commons and the House of Lords. In the House of Commons, only the members of parliment go in there. In the House of Lords, Lords and Ladies, Dukes and Duchesses etc only go in there. In the House of Commons bills are made, in the House of Lords the bills are double-checked to make sure that they can be made into laws. Then the Queen herself decides if the bill will be made into a law or not.
