I knew I shouldn’t have done it but I did…

My heart was in my mouth; my head spinning with confusion and my body shaking from head to toe. Silently and carefully I stepped closer looking for any movement. Under a heap of withered leaves I had just discovered an injured hedgehog. The poor little thing was trembling like mad and it was curled up in a small ball. The hedgehog’s spikes were shivering and I didn’t know what to do. Finally, I decided to take him to school.I was anxious the vet or the RSPCA wouldn’t look after her that is why I took my new pet to school. I hid it under a plump ,blue cushion to keep the hedgehog warm and safe. Worriedly I suddenly thought about food ,what do hedgehogs eat? My heart fell lower, where am I going to find worms? At last I went outside tingling with horror and picked up pink, horrible worms. I tried to bandage the hedgehog gently but it squealed with pain so I fed it some worms and Prickle(the hedgehog)recovered. The next dull morning I entered school excited to find out how Prickle was. Although I was going to find out wrong…

“What on earth is this mess!” screeched Mrs Fig angrily stomping her foot as she went, “whoever did this dreadful thing will pay!”

For one moment I had no idea what my terrible teacher was going on about until I looked around. The cushions were ripped and torn, like a wolf had entered the classroom and the pencils were scattered all around the room too. Anxiously I thought of Prickle and that hedgehogs are nocturnal. Would Prickle really have done this?

Alice start helping now!” roared Mrs Fig getting ready to pounce,“find this appalling monster!”

My heart was pounding; will they find my injured hedgehog? The day went on like weeks trying to find Prickle(while the worst teacher in the school keeps yelling at you) was very hard. At last everyone went home(apart from me) I decided to take Prickle to the wild.My eyes were full of tears when I started to pick him up from his ripped (now not so plump) cushion. It was depressing putting him down on the verdant grass although something caught the corner of my eye. I thought it was a thorn bush but I suddenly realized it was another hedgehog. It couldn’t be real. It was a miracle. I had just found Prickle’s mother. They were curled up together silently; then a few minutes later slowly they trotted away. The tears in my eyes were drying and all my body was filled with happiness. I wasn’t feeling worried now that I knew she would be safe with her Mother.

2 years later

My Aunt always use to say time flies by; now I believe her. I was striding along the brown, dehydrated grass kicking stones as I went. The wind blew; the leaves rustled and something brown came out. It must have been an illusion with my eyes. Right before me stood Prickle and two baby hedgehogs but Prickle wasn’t small any more. They were cuddled up together happily and sniffling a bit as the trees swayed past. Prickle was a lot bigger than the two other hedgehogs so I wondered if she was the mother. I was right.
