It was the day of the poetry competition when three pupils from each class, who were chosen to recite their poems in front of the judges, had their turn to perform. I was very nervous. I really wanted to win as  it was my only chance to shine. I was in Y4 and when the other twelfth pupils(three from each year group) performed, the closer it was to my turn the scarier it felt.

Eventually, me, and the other two of my classmates came up on the stage and we sat on red chairs up on the stage. I came second in the order and when it was my turn. I felt I was gonna faint but I believed in myself. As I started telling my story I felt the whole pressure go away and I felt as if I was just talking with my friend but with passion.

By the end I sat back down with a big smile on my face as everything was now in the past and I was confident with myself. Eventually, the judges went out to discuss their choice of the winners while the choir were singing songs to entertain the audience. When the judges came out of the room where they were discussing, I started panicking slightly again. All of the contestants were sitting on the stage ready to hear the results.

When I heard that the Y4 overall winner was my friend, I was very

happy for her and I congratulated her. When the last winner was to be announced I didn’t realise how I could be one and the result was that I actually did win the whole competition! I was full of emotions and when me and my classmates went up to class, we had a big round of applause. I was really happy and even now I still read the poems from the book I have won.

Poetry Competition

One of my best memories in the school of St Barnabas and St Philips.
