This week for Micro Society, our main topic was... (drum roll

please)...

ENTERPRISE!!!

For those of you who don't know, enterprise is all about businesses and companies, about finding out what people want/need and creating a business that provides that.It is also about persuading people to buy your product. To start off this topic, we read yet more of the story of Notenuf (pronounced not enough). In this tale, some families are doing really well, and they have lots of seeds and are growing many crops. However, some families aren't doing so well, and haven't got many seeds and haven't got many crops growing. To earn seeds,

people have started providing services. For example, those who

can fix things are offering to fix some broken things, in exchange for 2 seed packs. Or if someone's really good at baking bread, they might sell bread in exchange for 3 seed packs, and so on.

Next, we found out what civil servants are. Civil servants are people who work for society and the government, to help people and make your country/society a better place. For example, police officers are civil servants. So are bankers. Same with teachers. Don't forget the doctors!

We also looked at how to apply for a job. To apply for a job, you need to fill in a kind of form with your details, as well as recent jobs you've had. You then send it off to them, and if they like the sound of you they'll give you a job interview, where they find out more about you. Hopefully, if they think you're the right person, you then get the job!

Our next activity was to fill in a questionnaire and (depending on your score) see if you were the right sort of person to run a business.
