The good governance working committee

This term the Good Governance Working Committee (GGWC) have a key focus on reconstituting our Governing Body under the 2012 regulations by 1 September 2015. What does this mean?

In May 2014 the Department for Education (DfE) issued new statutory guidance on the constitution of governing bodies of maintained schools. It states that by 1 September 2015 all governing bodies must be constituted under the School Governance (Constitution) (England) Regulations 2012. This is an opportunity for us as a GGWC to take stock of whether our size, structure and membership are fit for purpose to deliver our core functions and other duties.

As we have a very strong and committed Governing body it is likely we will be making the minimum changes. The GGWC have worked through the DfE guidance and are now communicating proposals to the full Governing Body.

The full Governing Body started discussing the new requirements at full board in October last year, and have been kept abreast of the GGWC's progress.  Full details of these changes can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/constitution-of-governing-bodies-of-maintained-schools
