Skellig by Henry

Skellig is a really magnetic book about a boy called Michael who moves to a house on Falconer rd. The house is quite old and derelict. He finds a man in his garage called Skellig, who has a pair of wings on his back. Michael has a baby sister who is very ill. He keeps Skellig a secret from his parents because he doesn’t want them worrying about the man while they are worrying about the baby. Sometimes you need to keep some things from your parents. But he tells a girl called Mina who he meets.

He takes mina to see Skellig. They take Skellig to an empty house that is going to get re-furbished in a few weeks because they are worried the garage will fall in. They leave skellig in the house and talk about what to do with him. They go in the next day and find him half way up a staircase, lying down twisted with agony. They move him to an attic where some owls live. The owls bring him food and make him grow stronger, and he is happier there, because he is an owl-man.

I like the book because it makes me think about the world, about illnesses, and worry. And about life and death. And being born into a new world. It’s interesting because it talks to you about believing, about siblings and friends. For some reason it made be think about second chances, because Michael’s sister got better after illness, Skellig got away from his life of pain in the garage. It made me think about being born into a new world, because there are baby owls and and a baby sister.

I think it is a good book and I think David Almond is a great author.
