Food Shortages

What is a food shortage?

A food shortage is a when there is a lack of crops or food resources in a country and they are not able to eat or drink anything. Because of this people in the country can starve which can lead to them dying.

Which countries suffer from food shortages?

A lot of third world countries suffer from food shortages. A few countries that are suffering are:

Colombia

Afghanistan

Iraq

Somalia

Kenya

and many more countries on the african continent.

How do food shortages begin?

Food shortages can happen from natural disaster such as floods, earthquakes and also droughts. If a country is flooded there is too much water on the land which means the crop cannot absorb the water in enough time which makes them drown. If there is an earthquake, the ground can be destroyed and the plants roots can break also the damage from the ground can cause the plants themselves to break. Droughts are also dangerous when growing crops because if there is too much heat and not enough water the crop can not survive on just sunlight alone and the lack of water means the plant cannot absorb the nutrients from the ground as well as it could with the assistants of water.
