Well done! Fantastic letter writing in the character of either Hermia or Lysander as part of our work on Midsummer Night's Dream! Everyone has shown great understanding of the play and used this to write some wonderfully persuasive and emotional pieces.

Here are just a few to enjoy:

Letter to Theseus from Lysander (JD):

My noble lord,

I ask you to use your wisdom and knowledge to help me solve a problem. The father of Hermia has forced her to marry Demetrius who has cheated on a young lady named Helena but, because of the law, if she doesn’t want to marry Demetrius, she will be executed.

I beg you, my noble lord, to not let my love be executed. If she is killed, I will be heartbroken. I will treat her with respect and allow her to travel the world with me and all Demetrius will do is just let her be free. And she wants to marry me and she hates Demetrius.

With respect,

Lysander

Letter to Theseus from Lysander (TH)

My most honourable lord,

I ask you to use your wisdom and knowledge to help me solve a problem. The father of my love doesn’t want me and Hermia to get married because Egeus wants Hermia to marry Demetrius. But Hermia doesn’t like Demetrius.

My noble lord, I beg you to help me change Egeus’ mind not to execute my true love and not to force Hermia to marry Demetrius, the man who she fears will break her heart.

I plead with you to use your power to help solve this problem.

Lysander

Letter to Theseus from Lysander (CH)

To my lord,

May I ask of you to use your wisdom to aid me for my foreseeable future. My dear love Hermia is desperate to escape from her father’s grasp. She may be terminated just because true love is real.

Egeus wants her executed because he wants her to marry a scoundrel who does not know what love means. Demetrius is an Olympic rower, as you probably know, who thinks muscles are everything. My love wants a true hero and a real dad who will accept her request.

I am the true hero who will do her every request. I will bring/buy everything she needs; my love tokens and gifts are for pleasure, not for temptation. Egeus persists that I be forbidden to see his daughter because everything I do is to pull her away from Egeus’ and Hermia’s relationship, even though that is utter rubbish.

Thank you for your regards and I hope you will understand.

Yours sincerely,

Lysander

Letter to Theseus from Lysander (RGW)

My noble lord,

I beseech you not to execute my beloved Hermia. She means the world to me. Egeus has got it all wrong! I didn’t blind her bygifts; I gave her gifts because I care about her. I told Egeus about this but he didn’t listen. He just stomped out angrily with a furious face. Hermia deserves a man who actually loves her.

Demetrius doesn’t deserve a girlfriend. He just fiddles with hearts and ruins lives. He is such a disgrace to this town. He should be executed!

Please I beg you.

Yours sincerely,

Lysander

Letter to Theseus from Hermia (AG)

My noble lord,

I plead you to use your wisdom to help me solve a problem. My problem is that my father wants me to marry Demetrius but I am in love with thou Lysander and my father says that if I do not marry Demetrius than he wants me to be executed by the law of Athens!

I beg that you use your almighty power to let me and Lysander be a couple and not me and Demetrius. I also feel that Lysander has as much money as he has and Demetrius is just a dishonourable person but when I look at Lysander, well, he just makes me feel special!

Also, Demetrius only just broke up with Helena and she is my best friend and she is heartbroken.

I hope you will support me in my decision.

Yours faithfully,

Hermia

Letter to Theseus from Hermia (PR)

My noble lord,

I beseech you to use your powerful wisdom to help me solve a hard problem. My father has told me that I have to take hands with a man I don’t love at all. His name is Demetrius. I absolutely fear Demetrius. I love another man called Lysander; he’s the man for me. Demetrius is a fool who has already broken my best friend Helena’s heart.

Also, my humble lord, I am the only child of Egeus and I don’t see why my father will execute me for not loving the right man. I have my own rights to decide my own future and to decide who I would like to take hands with. If my father wants me to take hands with Demetrius than I wouldn’t because I don’t love him.

My noble lord, I beg you to help me solve my problem to not take hands with a man who I don’t love.

Yours faithfully,

Hermia

Letter to Theseus from Hermia (JL)

To my Lord High Majesty,

I plead you to use your high intelligence and overwhelming power to assist me through a problem. My father, Egeus, the local banker, is forcing me to marry Demetrius, a man I do not wish to marry. The truth is, I love Lysander, though my father believes he has put a spell on me, but I disagree.

My noble lord, I do not trust Demetrius because of what he has done to my best friend Helena, as you surely know. Therefore, I beseech you to recognise Demetrius as the dishonourable scoundrel he is and someone I should not have to marry against my will. I do not believe that my father should play such a big part in my future. He thinks he knows best, but he doesn’t.

My father wants to kill me because I have stood up to him for so long.

Yours faithfully,

Hermia
