Alien Adventure

By Sophie Hunter

Once upon a time there was a girl called Natalie and she lived in dull Pennsylvania.  Her father was a banker and her mother was a photographer and they lived in a grand house.  The interesting thing about this family was that Natalie did not go to school.  Instead every afternoon she had Maths and English lessons with a tutor.  In the mornings she had spare time.  In that spare time she used to wear her magic ruby shoes.  The thing about the magic ruby shoes was that simply by clicking them together she could travel through time and visit incredible periods in history.

One day her mother and father had gone out to work and she was wondering where she might go today.  She clicked her heels and…BOOM…a big thunderclap sounded and…WHOOSH…she felt herself floating around in space!

She saw a space ship zooming around with two colourful, friendly looking aliens inside. They whizzed over and invited Natalie to come onto their space ship, which was called the Silver Bullet.  Their names were Zipzoop and Poozar, and they asked Natalie if she wanted to join them on a ride through space.  ‘Of course!’ she said.   As they flew past bright, twinkly stars and the flaming, yellow sun Natalie could feel her heart thumping with excitement.

Suddenly, in the distance, they saw an unidentified flying creature.  As they got closer they realised it was a lost alien and Zipzoop decided to see what the alien needed.  “Goz ip zoop slan loerit nam,” he said.  “That means ‘Hello what is your name’,” said Poozar.  The alien answered by saying ‘zic Pitnip.’  Poozar translated again and said ‘That means her name is Pitnip.’  Zoopzip asked the alien where she was from and Pitnip said Mars.  ‘I know where that is,’ said Zoopzip, ‘You need to follow us’.  And off they flew towards Mars, with Pitnip following behind.  Zoopzip and Poozar told them about all the places they went past.  Neptune was a gloomy, rainy place; Saturn had a ring of glimmering ice and dusty rock; while Mercury looked like a ball of deep red fire.

Eventually they stopped at Mars where they dropped Pitnip off.  By now Natalie was getting a little worried that her parents might be back from work.  This had been an amazing adventure but now it was time to go.  She said goodbye to her new friends and clicked her ruby slippers together.  BANG…with a flash of bright light Natalie was carried away.  When she opened her eyes she was back in her ordinary world, and was standing in her bedroom.  She looked at the time and realised she had only been away for a morning.  Then she heard a sharp knock at the door and remembered it was time for her tutoring session.

As she sat down to do her maths she smiled a little smile to herself.  She had a secret in her heart that she would never forget.
