The sun shone brightly and gently pushed the windy breeze
into an open window. Hayley opened her eyes and crawled
out of her bed. She yawned and crept downstairs. She was
an only child and her mum and dad were still sleeping. She
snagged a piece of cake and switched on the telly. She looked
outside to see the wind pushing her favourite tree down onto
the road,
"Not that tree! Push down a different one!" She had a tear in
her eye. She put on her coat and rushed outside. But it was
too late. The tree had collapsed and was lying on the ground.
"No!" She shouted kneeling by her side. She had so many
memories there. Her first steps, her first birthday, her first
words. And it was a quiet place to read a good book and get
lost in. The whole street had woken up and came outside to
what the noise was about.
"Hayley?" Hayley turned around to see her parents rushing
out.
"It's gone. I was too late." Her parents started backing away.
"What is it?" she asked. The wind was stronger now, and
she started shivering.
"Hayley! Watch out!" cried her neighbour. Hayley turned
around and... BANG! As Hayley closed her eyes she could
hear her neighbour shout,
" Heeeeelp!" And she fell asleep.
