Viking Longship

In addition to the Viking longship used to raid places it has other uses such as; trading- going to places to do business, travelling across shallow water and to find food and land.

How was it built?

Materials used: The body of the ship was built with wood which was overlapped, the boats has tiny little pieces of metal called rivets, an oak tree was also cut to make the keel, they also stuffed animal wool and sticky tar in the cracks to keep the water out.

The Dragon head: It was made out wood to warn off people, it was about 35 meters long although it was all made approximately.

Tools and measurements: The Vikings were very approximate with their measures it was all hands, feet and eye positions. They used and axe and a scraper.

Sails and Oars: The steering oar was on the right hand side of the ship at the back. Commonly, there was about 100 oars on the ship so there would be 50 benches. The ship had one big square sail in the middle.

Overall the Viking ship is their best invention for them and the easiest and the most helpful that's why they succeeded.
