Meerkats

I'm going to talk about meerkat facts which include where they can be found how many pups (baby meerkats) are born is a year and more facts about them.


Where to they live? Where are they found?

Meerkats live in burrows. Burrows are holes and tunnels in which animals live. Their habitats are desserts and grasslands.


Do that live in groups?

Yes they live in very big groups. From twenty to fifty group members.


How do they eat?

They eat in turns. Some meerkats look for food whilst one or two meerkats stand guard and when they see a predator the meerkats on guard will alert the others.


How long do they live for?

They live for twelve to fourteen years.


When is their breeding season?

Their breeding season is from October to April if they are wild but if they are captured their mating season is all year round. They have two to five pups a year.


What do they eat?

They eat rodents,bird,eggs,fruit and plants.


Do they leave their pups alone in the burrows?

No,there will be a little bit of meerkats in the burrows, they are called nursery's.
