The Sutton Hoo treasure at The British Museum - Archie.

On September 27th I visited the British Museum. I saw some of the things we have been learning about at school. For instance I saw some of the things that were inside the buried boat like the decorative shield or the Sutton Hoo helmet.

The helmet is one of four complete helmets to survive from Anglo Saxon England. It has been painstakingly reconstructed from the shattered condition in which it was found. It's exceptional survival and interesting appearance make it very special.

It was originally made of copper and decorated with animal and warrior pictures. The mouth, nose and eyebrows were made to look like a bird, which they do. On the far side of both eyebrows, there is a beast. Some pictures were repeated multiple times.

Here is a photo of me with the real Sutton Hoo helmet and a photo of the replica of what scientists thought it would have really looked like in Anglo Saxon days.
