Taj Mahal

Today I am writing about the Taj Mahal which without a doubt is one of the most extraordinary, breathtaking, beautiful wonders of the world! So carry on reading if you want to know more about the Taj Mahal.

Where is it?

The taj Mahal is located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India in the continent of Asia. Its in the northern hemisphere and has a population of 1.252 billion people. Many Indian restaurants are named after the Taj Mahal.

When was it built?

Between the years 1632 and 1648 three hundered and sixty eight years ago Shah Jahan constructed the Taj Mahal in memory of his wife. 20,000 workers and 1,000 eliphants helped build it one year after his wife died. Mumtaz Mahal original name was Arjumand Banu Begum.

What is the Taj Mahal?

If you visit the Taj Mahal today its now a tourist attraction and has over 2,000,000 toutists every year! However the Taj Mahal was a tomb/mausoleum made out of white marble for Shah Jahans wife. And is one of the seven modern wonders of the world.

Why was it built?

The Taj Mahal was built in order to remember his favourite wife-Mumtaz Mahal who died in 1631 whilts giving birth to her 14th child.

The Taj Mahal has a meaning if-crown of places. White marble was used from all over the world to make the Taj Mahal and as a result is very imposing! It has a pool in front of the gargantuan structure reaching to approximatley 561 feet tall. The Taj Mahal appears to change colours depending on the time of day. The four pillars are built to slant away slightley, this was done to help protect the tomb if the pillars ever colapsed. Although the Taj Mahal was built for Mumtaz Mahal , Shah Jahan was also laid to rest in the tomb alongside his wife when he passed away. The massive round dome at the top is approximatley 115 feet tall. All of this came to a total of £32 million pounds to build.

The Taj Mahal has got to be one of your next holiday destination and when you get there you will be flouting on cloud 9 when you see that its as beautiful as a diamond in the sun! Surley after hearing all the facinating infomation, without a doubt everyone will want to go and see the Taj Mahal
