Emerald Star
Emerald Star is the third and last book of the Hetty Feather trilogy. After deciding to change her name to Emerald, Hetty travels through towns with only one intention, to find her father as her mother instructed her to before she died. Though she is in for a shock, as her father has a new family, including: a son, daughter and Hettys evil stepmother, Katherine. Hetty soon realizes that being a fisherman’s daughter is not quite the life suitable for her and leaves to her foster home after receiving a letter from, Jem, her foster brother, notifying her that her foster father was dead.

She returns to the countryside to find that her mother was very ill and her body quite paralysed. Taking after her old family is a struggle, but soon Hetty makes friends with a teacher in the country side, Janet, who she soon finds out loves her childhood sweetheart, Jem. Her other foster brother, Gideon, soon returns home after a traumatic incident at his military camp which caused him to lose an eye. Hetty becomes jealous and depressed when she starts witnessing how close her foster mother and Gideon were becoming. It was also disturbing, that after all these months Hetty had not come as close to her mother as much as Gideon had in just a few days. It had also been alerting that Jems fondness for her seemed to be growing every time she is around him, despite only loving him as a brother.

As the summer drew near, her favourite circus, the Tangle field’s Travelling Circus returned, along with Madame Adeline, her all time idol and Diamond a young girl who she soon makes friends with. Hetty eventually leaves the countryside with Tangle field’s Travelling Circus to start her new life as a ring master and seamstress of the circus. Also in hopes that Jem will find Janet as his new love.
