GlowWorms

Glow worms (Lampyris Noctiluca) are not actually worms they are beetles. The females light up to attract the males in the night. Did you know that they are only found in parts of England especially the south.

Habitat

The glow worms are seen especially in meadows, parks and gardens of the South (Scotland and Wales) In the meadows, parks and gardens during the day you will often see them under the stones and logs. The months seen are May to late August they are most noticeable in night June. Female lights up to attract the male in the night, the female glows for about 7 hours.

What they eat

The young ones eat small snails and slimy slugs. The caring adults don't rarely eat at all which is amazing.

Appearance

The glow worms has a creamy grey colour with bright yellow triangles on each side. these fum sized creatures are about 15mm. The male glow worms look like ordinary beetles with hard wing cases. Did you know the females are larger than the males.
