Ebola Awareness Day - Article 24 - Children have the right to health care!

On the 13th February the School Council organised a 'Wear Your Pyjamas to School' day to raise money for people in the countries where there is currently an Ebola epidemic. It was Thora in 4 Blue who first brought the idea to the school council and suggested raising money. The school council then asked their classes for ideas on how to raise money and reported back in a meeting where it was decided that a pyjama day would be a fun way to raise money.

As well as being particularly comfortable all day, children took part in lessons where they learnt more about the causes of the epidemic and how our money will help. Children also thought about this disease has affected children's rights, not only their right to adequate health care but their right to education (some children have not been in school for 9 months), and their right to rest and play as children are discouraged from taking part in games and activities where there is a risk of the infection spreading.

Year 6 wrote some excellent radio appeals and Year 4 drew consequence trees looking at the causes and consequences of the disease and how charities are helping people.

The best thing about the day was that we raised £347 and that's before the money the PTA have kindly given from the cake sale that day! Well done everyone and thank you for getting involved!!
