STEPHEN HAWKING

Stephen Hawking was a world famous scientist, best known for his work on the origins of the universe and black holes.

He was born on the 8th of January 1942. He went to St. Alans school. When he was a teenager Stephen and his friends built a computer out of old clock parts, telephone switchboards and other recycled items.

Sadly, when he was 21 he was diagnosed Motor Neuron Disease. Eventutally he had to use an electric wheelchair to get around and was unable to talk. But the doctors gave him a special computer that talked for him. He controlled it by moving his cheek muscles.

He wrote one of the most popular science books of all time called 'A Brief History Of Time' which sold more than 10 million copies.

He died on the 14th of March 2018, aged 76.
