The era of global travel began in the 1970s,when the first pan am boeing 747 jet landed at Heathrow airport. the concorde was the fastest passenger aeroplane until it crached 3 times in a year, so they banned it.
Most planes are propeller driven and very slow. Then aeroplanes like the comet flew much futher and faster. The last mainline steam train ran in 1962, by the 1970s there were fewer than 3,000 left. Most people travelled by bus ,bike or train. A car ride was a treat because a few people had one.
Hot air balloons were first flown by brother Joseph and Ethine Montgolfier. By the 1970s the jet age
had truly arrived. New large turbine powered aircrafts could fly much higher and smoother. Planes could fly to many over sea destinations.
