How did The Vikings construct their Longships?

The Vikings built Longships, they used them for invading and trading. They could go very quick on the water and they could sail through shallow waters.

How were Longships built?

The Vikings normally used to build there legendary ships near a river or the sea. To make the keel they would have to cut a massive tree it normally would be an oak tree. They would cut long planks some short and some long, the Vikings normally did all their measurements by experience and estimation. The planks (short and long) were there to support the cross beams and the rib cage.

They used wooden pegs and iron rivets to put the wooden planks (or pieces) together. The Vikings would overlap the side of the boat extremely strong, this was called clinker-building.
