Our victorious Hockey team ventured south to Crystal Palace National Sports Centre as we headed to the 39th Balfour Beatty London Youth Games - Europe's largest annual youth sports event.

From over 300 teams that entered we were down to the 32 best sides from London borough, and the competition was extremely tough. We were placed in a group of four and first up were Barnehurst Junior School from Bexley. This proved to be a very stern test as we were beaten 4-0.

Next up we took on Aldersbrook Primary from Redbridge. This turned out to be a more even fixture, however we were up against it when we went 2-0 behind. Two goals from Louis brought us back into the game, but a last minute goal from Aldersbrook meant we lost 3-2.The final group fixture was against Richmond’s representatives, St James School. Here the class really shone through, the gulf in playing Hockey for six weeks compared to children who play at clubs was really evident here as we lost 9-1 with Jordan scoring our goal.

The day was not over though as we went into another group of four. Fox Primary from Kensington and Chelsea, again demonstrated the strength of the competition beating us 4-0, but we then had some success as we won our first game, when a last minute goal from Cory helped us to beat Parsloes School from Basildon 2-1, with the other goal coming from Louis.

The last game of the competition for us was against Christ Church C of E Primary from Kingston. They turned on the style to win 5-0 it did leave me to wonder they must have been extremely unfortunate to be knocked out of their group as they played some fantastic hockey. This was proved right after as it turned out they had been misplaced in our group, which was some small consolation to us! Our final position was 23rd, very pleasing when compared to some of the players and teams we played. All in all the children had a thoroughly good day out and most enjoyable experience.
