Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman was born into a slave

family in 1820.

When she was six she worked

in her masters cotton fields

bringing water back and forth.

When she grew up she witnessed a slave escape, she was told to chase him but she didn't and the master hit her with a brick.

She left the hut they lived in one

morning and ran north to Pennsylvania.

After a week of walking she reached the

border of Pennsylvania and she was free.

1 year later she went back to get her family.

She used the 'underground rail way'. A group of houses that slaves would be safe in

Once her family were safe she kept going back to free more slaves. In the end she freed over 70 slaves!
