what is electricity

Electricity is a type of energy that is created by generators which is powered by solar energy, wind, Coal, gas and oil.

Electricity can produce light, sound, movement and heat.

For electricity to flow it needs a conductor, such as copper, Iron and steel. Things like plugs and light bulbs have metal in them to allow the electricity to flow through them and either light up or power household items.

To keep us safe from the electrical current we use what they call insulators, which is materials that stops the electricity passing through it. Materials such as plastic, wood and rubber are good Insulators, the most common one being the plastic coating on electrical wires, this stops you from getting an electrical shock.
