i will be introducing to you about
my passion,which is Tap Dancing.
ORIGINS
Originally, Tap Dancing started in the 1900s. Tap dancing was created by the rythmic, feet technique masters who were from the continent of Africa. African Americans held on to their traditions by using the drums, which created extraordinary sounds. That transferred through their feet.
African Americans, then combined Irish Dancing (Irish dancing came from the United Kingdom, Ireland.) When Irish dancing and tap dancing were combined together, this was called'Modern Tap.'
William Henry Lane was a very famous tap dance, also a very famous American Jazz dancer. He was known as, 'Master Juba'. Since Master Juba was very talented, he mixed these types of dances:European dances, Irish Dancing and African rhythms, which are now called 'American Jazz dance.
My inspiration.
Cholly Atkins.
Cholly Atkins was a very inspirational man,
who began tap dancing in the late 1930s.
After WWII(World War 2)Cholly had found a
dancing partner, which he would perform many
acts with him.
Not only performing Tap dancing, he performed many
different types of art:Jazz dance and Modern tap.In the
1950s Cholly had taught dance steps to young children,
and adults.By passing down his passion. Suddenly, Cholly
died with Pancreatic cancer in March 19th 2003.
Unfortunately,if he had been alive more longer he would
of been the age of 90 years old.
Autobiography
My name is Telia-Maria James and i have danced Tap dancing for 5 years. When I started Tap dancing i was quite nervous, because i was going to start something new that i hadn't learned. As the years went on i was confident enough to dance solos towards my dance teacher.
I started Tap dancing in 2012,which was 5 years ago if you didn't know that. At first I was quite embarrassed, because other girls used to look at me since i din't know simple tap steps. When i danced , the girls looked up to me as there inspiration, since when i started i did not know anything about tap but then i practiced and practiced until i was perfect.
Now it is 2017, I am now at Grade 4 since i practiced as hard as i cold to be the best. When i see the older girls dance i find them, working as hard as they could to be amazing tap dancers, when i see them i think of them as my inspiration. Now other famous tap dancers have inspired me to carry on what i love, which is Tap dancing .When i think of my ambition, i want to be one of the most famous and inspirational tap dancers theworld have ever seen.
Thank you for listening to my autobiography, about my ambition, which is Tap dancing.
TAP DANCE
OUTWEAR
The dance wear for tap dance are very simple and forma. If you go to a competition you would see very classic outgoing party dresses from the 1920s.
When going to a Tap class you must wear very comfortable clothes, that you can dance in like:Leggings, joggers, T-shirts and jumpers.
In an Tap exam you must wear black to look formal, otherwise the examiner will be distracted while scoring.Your Tap Teacher normally recommends you to wear:a Leotard, black tights, leggings and a black skirt(if you are younger wear a skirt).
TAP
SHOES
The out sole of the tap shoe is made of the tap shoe is very thick, which makes the tap shoe very durable.
The sole of the Tap shoe is most commonly made out of thick leather or plastic, which makes the shoe very strong and it will last long.
If a Tap shoe has a thicker sole, longer srews will be needed to fix the tightening of the shoe.
Also, the heel tap are made out of metal to make the wonderful sounds of the tap shoe.
TECHNIQUE
.Toe tap-the ball or pad of the foot against the floor, use your ankle(Not Your Whole Leg).
.Heel Tap - Strike the heel of the floor and then release immediately.
. Step- Place the ball of the foot on the floor with a change of weight.
.Touch- place the ball of the foot on the floor without the change of weight.
.STamp- place the foot on the floor with a change of weight.(Foot stays on the floor).
.Stomp- place the flat foot on the floor, then lift your foot(no weight needed).
