World Thinking Day For Girls all over the World
In 1909 Lord Baden-Powell,the founder of scouting,when faced with the increasing number of girls that wished to take part in scouting,decided that girls should have their own separate movement,therefore Girl Guides and Girl Scouts were founded in the UK in 1910.
In 1912 Lord Baden-Powell marries Olave Soames. 1941 Junior section named Rosebuds are introduced to the girls aged 8-11 and is later re-named Brownies.Agnes (Lord Baden-Powel's daughter)set up the Girl Guides association.
1916 the Senior group is formed(re-named Rangers in 1920).In the year 1918 Lady Baden-Powell is appointed Chief Guide.Princess Mary,daughter of King George V,becomes President of the Association(1920).1922 the first training and Activity centre,Foxlease,is opened.
Scottish Guiding became independent in 1933.Girl Guiding Scotland was given the keys to Netherurd in 1940.
Many more girls got involved,a lady named Allison went on to become Scottish Guiding President in the 1950s. New groups started for girls of different ages-known as Rainbows Brownies and the Senior section,therefore there was something for girls each stages of their lives.
Internationally it is governed by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts(WAGGS)with member organisation in over 100 different countries which is an outstanding amount of girls all across the world willing to participate as a Guide,Brownie and Rainbow.
