Nelson Mandela

is famous for being the first black president

in South Africa. For many years

while he was growing up there

in the contry they had laws to prevent black people from having

the same rights as white people. Everyone was divided according

to there race which was called apartheid. Like many people,Mandela

belived this was unfair and wrong.Mandela was a lawer and he became very involved in thwhit a political group called the ANC, the african national congres . The ANC fought against aparthid and

campainged for a South Africa where black and white people were

treated equally. Because of his involvement with the ANC, Mandela was arrested and spent 27 years in prison. When he was realised in 1990,he continued to campaign for everyone to have a vote in South Africa. He was elected to be president 1994 in South Africa's first democratic election known as the father of the nation he is much loved and respected in South Africa and around the world even after his death.
