1927 Friday

Dear diary,Today has been an exhausting day.Even poor Tiro is so tired ,right now he is sleeping on my knees.Did I make the correct choice by leaving home? Anyway lets start at the beginning , where it all began...

It was 6:30 am in the morning and me and Tiro were ready to set of for school. You may be thinking ,Why so early in the morning?well it takes us one and a half hours to get to school. We must be on time or else a adult will hit us.Back to the subject.Me and Tiro heard Dieno crying so we rushed to see whats wrong. Dieno has been sick for 2 weeks now her fever just wont settle down. Nono was trying to calm her down .I was so scared for her . I begged Nono to let me stay but she insisted that I go to school.

Nono tried to put a brave face, however we knew that Nono was just as scared as we were. Moments later, an idea shot up in my heaut she insisted that I go to school.

On we walked to school, i was scrubbing by feet against the dry path trying to get all my anger out of me.It was about only 15 minuets until we arrived at school.Suddenly,we went past the grn baby's .The same age as Dieno!!!!!

AS the day went by, I? could'nt stop thinking about her.what would happen to us? will she get better ?All sorts of questions wizzed through my head.when the school bell rang ,and everyone began to walk home,at that exact moment i knew i had to do something but what ?

We arrived at home and Dieno was still crying. Nono tried to put a brave face, however we knew that Nono was just as scared as we were. Moments later, an idea shot up in my head.we should send a telegraph to Mma .Our mother has had to move to Jo' Burg to support the family. She only gets to visit once a year! It is so unfair. Just because we are BLACK does not mean we are any less important. Nono shook her head she said she does not want to worry Mma. Tiro then asked why can we not take Dieno to the hospital.Even I knew the answer to this, the nearest hospital is two miles away and we did not have any money to give to the doctor.
