The Blitz WW2

The Blitz was a devastating bombing attack continuing numerous times, from Germany to Britain. On the 7th september 1940, the first blitz attack happend killing over 2000 people.

The Blitz attacks went on for a year (1940- 1941) targetting the main cities of Britain. Each

time a blitz attack would happen, there would be an air raid siren warning the towns and cities to quickly get to saftey.The attacks would happen at night so the cities would normally turn out the lights, this was called a blackout.The Germans tried to destroy the weapons (meaning they would have to surrender).

Shelters

There were different types of shelters, morrison and anderson shelters. There was also public shelters.The morrison shelters would be inside a home, but they would be very small and cramped.The Anderson shelters would be outside, made with strong iron sheets.Normally, they would have soil and grass to camouflage and grow crops.Sometimes you would have to go to a public shelter, which would be in a train station, if you couldnt get home to your shelter on time.
