"Mummy do we have to go?" asked Holly tiredly.

"Holly, come on, the fireworks display isn't going to be that bad," replied her mum, Sophie.

"Really? It's Friday night and I just want to relax!" she exclaimed, resting back in the cosy armchair she was sitting on.

"Well- I know you've had a busy day at school but you'll get to relax over the weekend. Mummy and Daddy have had a busy day at work so just co-operate," she reasoned.

"Fine," agreed Holly stubbornly, but was still reluctant to pull on her gloves and hat as she staggered out the door, wrapping her woolly scarf around.

It was the 5th November, and 10-year-old Holly Davis was going to the local fireworks display. "It's freezing," jittered Holly as she gazed into the starry sky.

"Come on, we're nearly there- it's just round this corner," Holly's dad said. They turned the corner and entered a large field already crowded with stalls, shops and people. It was quite loud, but OK for Holly and her older sister Amber, who was turning 12 that day. She was going ice skating at the weekend but had come to the fireworks for enjoyment. They had brought soft, snowy white earmuffs to block out the roaring crowd.

Soon, everyone suddenly went quiet. The fireworks were beginning.

BANG! BANG! BANG! The gold and red swirling sparks blasted into the air and exploded into colour. Turquoise and green and yellow and red and white and purple fired into the sky as they mixed around each other and created a deafening BANG!

Holly, who was enjoying the fireworks, saw a glimpse of light on the ground. It moved around and spiralled around her feet. She stepped back from her family and bent down. The glimpse of light crawled up her leg - which she felt - crawled next to her ear and whispered quietly so that she could hear, "Hello- I'm a fairy. I've been alone for the last ten years so I need your help. Do you think you could help me get back to my land?"

"Er, ok then," whispered Holly, puzzled. She let the glow crawl into her hand and said to her quietly," My name is Holly. I will help you but first you will need to tell me where you need to go."

"Ok," whispered the fairy back. "My name is Katie and I would really appreciate you doing this. Ok, so I live at the top of the hill but everyone had to be evacuated due to the fireworks. But we need to hurry, the frozen border is building up and will close in the next 5 minutes."

"But- the fireworks are on! We can't go up there now! I'm sorry but we cannot go there. We are not allowed and plus, we will get burnt alive!"

"Please????" whispered the fairy.

"Fine," Holly said reluctantly. Then, she frowned. If Katie was a fairy, then she should have wings, and would be able to fly. She could simply fly to her home. She wouldn't need her help.

Holly bent down and said" Katie, can't you fly to the hill?"

"Yes, I can, but the heat is too much for a fairy and will instantly kill me. This is why the freeze wall is being built. But if I don't get there in time, I will be lost from my family and friends forever!"

"Ok," Holly thought. What was she meant to do? She couldn't jut ignore this poor little fairy. She had to be helped. But how?

"I know, Katie, wait here," Holly said as she rushed into the club and bought a chocolate bar. Then, she came out and opened the wrapper. After eating a square of vanilla chocolate, she took the other squares out and bent down.

"Climb into this wrapper Katie," Holly said, tiredly. Katie climbed and wrapped it around her like a cloak.

"Thank you," Katie exclaimed eagerly. She flew away in it as Holly waved goodbye. Then, she came back to her parents and offered them some chocolate. Together they watched the amazing fireworks firing into the icy night.

Sparks of red and gold exploded together to make a magnificent firework echoing a loud BANG! Green and purple swirls contradicted the white and brown sparks popping into the air. Little showers of sparkles rained in the night, all different colours. After a minute of peaceful silence, a deafening BANG! erupted in the air, drawing in people from all around. They gazed, transfixed, as the astonishing golden bright sparks exploded around red shower sparkles. They enjoyed the night alot, but Holly never told anyone about Katie.

On the next night, while Holly was relaxing on her chair, her sister was out ice-skating and her parents were watching a film in bed. A glow crept up to her. It patted her on the shoulder. It was Katie.
