The end came at last today, she wasn’t going to survive. No ship built by human hands could have withstood the strain that she was under. I ordered all hands onto the floe. As the ice started cracking under our feet, we started filling our boats with all the important things that we have. We left everything that was not that important in the ship, hoping that we did not need it in the journey.

As we continued to set up our Arctic Camp, the warm, Arctic sun was shining down on us, wising us good luck as we worked in the cold ice. The Endurance was still sinking along with our hope. Everyone in my team hoped we will not be joining her. The cold seemed to have lost its hope too! It was biting us through our clothes. We were helpless. I looked up at the sky. The clouds were covering the lonely sun.

“Are we going to stay here? If yes, for how long?” my crew asked me each day after the Endurance got stuck.

“Hopefully not for long! Hopefully not for long!” I would answer back, hoping that would be true.

We were running low on supplies! We ran out of food! Luckily, one of my men knew how to fish. All of us went with him just to learn how to fish, just in case we were to stay here for a couple more days.

When we caught our fish and started to cook it on our fire, one of my men thought that he saw a boat or a ship on the sea! I looked, hoping that was true! There was! It was coming near us. Was it going to save us? It was coming closer and closer!

“Come on, quickly!” a voice shouted from the boat. When I looked carefully,  I saw that it was one of my crew members that stayed on the island! He came to rescue us! All of us ran to the boat. We climbed onto it.

“When you did not return on the date that you said you would, I thought of coming out to find you!” he said, offering us some food.

“Well it is good that you came! Otherwise, we would not have survived!” one of my crewmen answered back to him, taking the offered food from his hand.

“You are right!” I answered back to him.

After we finished our food, he took us back to the island and all of us went back to our normal lives..
