How do lungs function

We need to breathe to stay alive and that is one of the important jobs our lungs

do to keep us alive and get rid of the carbon dioxide. Air travels through our

mouth and nose a bit like a rollercoaster. It also travels down our windpipe.

Inside the lungs oxygen enyers the blood stream and carbon dioxide is removed

and breathed out.



Lung Facts

  1. The primary functions in our lungs are to transport oxygen from the air you breathe into your bloodstream while taking away the carbon dioxide, which is put in the air which you breathed out.
  2. Most vertebrate animals (animals with spines) have two lungs.
  3. You can also live without 1 lung but limits the amount of activity you can do but also it doesnt stop you from living a normal life. Many people around the have just one lung.
  4. A normal personbrathes around 11000 litres of air a day which is 77000 a week and also 330000 litres a month!
  5. When resting we breathe around 12 to 20 a minute
