CHESWICK GREEN PRIMARY SCHOOL GOVERNORS BLOG

Our governor committes work with the School to monitor and facilitate all aspects of School life.

Here are some Committee Updates from the autumn term.

Finance committee:

The Finance Committee met twice in the autumn. As stated in an earlier blog, an important function at each meeting is the monitoring of the school’s revenue account and the separate account for the Extended Services Provision offered by the school. This exercise consists of comparing the sum of actual income (or expenditure) to date and the anticipated income (or expenditure) until the end of the financial year with the budget figure. The reason for any significant variation is identified and corrective action taken where necessary.

It is inevitable that, during the year, it sometimes becomes desirable for the school to purchase some equipment or additional resources that were not considered at the time that the budget was set. In such instances the committee will decide whether or not to authorise the required expenditure. For example, this term, authorisation was given for the purchase of some ICT devices to facilitate data handling by the teaching staff.

The Committee believes that both of the revenue accounts are healthy at this time.

It was necessary to replace one of the school boilers this term. This unexpected expenditure was funded from the Capital Account. Nevertheless, this account remains healthy.

The Good Governance Committee:

The committee met in September and November of the autumn term. The committee agreed the names of individual governors (link governors) to link with staff leading development projects in the school. The committee also considered drafts of a vision statement for the school which the full governing body will consider later. The statement will set out aims over a three to five year period. Led by the Headteacher, the committee considered in detail the pupil achievement data for 2014/15. Overall standards were good or very good. Results in national tests in Year 6 in maths and grammar, spelling and punctuation were less good. Governors considered the actions the school was taking to make improvements. The committee reviewed the training governors were undertaking during 2015/16 to ensure that all essential training had appropriate governors attending. The committee noted changes to the remit of the HR Committee and the merging of the Health, Safety, Buildings and Extended Services Committees.
