Chemistry

Chemistry is what you would call the centre of science. It has things to with Biology and Physics. Remember it is all about materials.

Atoms

Atoms are teeny tiny building blocks that create the universe. They are so small that even extremely detailed microscopes cannot visualise these incredibly tiny atoms. That is why we cannot see them.

Metals

As you might know, metals are used quite often in chemistry and here is a diagram to which is the most reactive and which is the least. A great experiment to

do, is to try and put Potassium in water. What happens, is that it

combines with the H20 (water) and starts to melt. Then the

Hydrogen starts to ignite instantly. The Potassium goes up in

lilac flames with sparks. Sodium is a soft silver-white reactive

metal. The melting point is 97.72 Celsius. Calcium is a soft grey

alkaline metal and its melting point is 842 Celsius.Magnesium

is a group two element and is the eighth most common element

in the earth's crust.  Magnesium is light, silvery-white, and tough.

Like aluminium, it forms a thin layer around itself to help prevent

itself from rusting when exposed to air. Zinc was found in 1746

and is a grey shiny metal. Iron is the most common element on earth

We use it for tools and weapons.Tin is a highly workable metal that

was once as valuable as silver for jewellery, coins, and special

dishes. Today it is used as sheets in the construction of buildings

and roofs, for soldering or joining metal parts, for storage containers.

Lead is a bit like charcoal because of the ways we use it. Most people

use them both for colouring and drawing. It can be poisonus if you

start to eat it. Copper is a soft metal known as a conductor of heat

and electricity. A freshly exposed surface of pure copper has a

reddish orange colour. Silver is a soft white metal which possesses

the most electrical conductivity. In its purest form, it is a bright,

slightly reddish yellow, dense and soft metal. It is one of the least

reactive metals. Platinum is an unreactive metal and is grey- white.
