Where is it?

Chichen Itza is located in the Peninsula of Yucatan in Mexico. Mexico is in the continent of North America, which,is in the Northern hemisphere. The population of this magnificent country in is 122.3 million! A lot of people.

When was it built?

The structure was constructed by the pre-columbian Mayan Civilization, and that was sometime between the 9th and 12th centuries, A very long time ago.

What is it?

Chichen Itza is one of Mexicos most popular tourist destinations, and rightfully so. Chichen Itza is perhaps the largest, and most famous accessible Mayan site, made out of limestone. This building is a pyramid shaped building, with 91 steps, and there are 4sides, and that makes 364 steps, Teres one step at the top, so, that makes 365 steps, so that's one for each day of the year!

Why was it built?

Chichen Itza was built to amaze, awe, and facinate people and the Mayan people who lived there at the time, but, also, it was believed that the Chichen Itza was a pilgrimage place for the Mayans.

Any other info?

Chichen Itza has two other names, one of them is 'Temple of Kukulakan' the other is ''El Castillo'. Chichen Itza means 'the mouth of the well of Itza'.Also, it is the second most popular site for visitors or tourists in Mexico.Chichen Itza is 98 feet high, and, it thrived from 600 AD until 1221, when the power in the region shifted to Mayapan, leaving the Chichen Itza behind. The Chichen Itza may have been in the same place because of two large natural nearby sinkholes that would have provided water all year round. The Chichen Itza covers five square kilometres, quite a lot of area then! All the buildings of Chichen Itza are made from stone. Approximately 1.2 million people visit the Chichen Itza every year.It is somewhat a mystery that twice a year a shadow falls upon the Chichen Itza forming the shape of a serpent! The Mayan people thought this a good sign. The Mayan people were advanced for their time, because historians found the remains of an observatory structure, also, the Mayan people were good at astrology, and could predict solar eclipses very successfully too!

I hope you have enjoyed reading about Chichen Itza, one of the best modern wonders of the world, if you do visit Chichen Itza I guarantee you'll think it as majestic as a racing horse. If you don't visit, you'll be like an alpaca in the rain, devastated that you didn't grab the chance to go see the Chichen Itza! It will take your breath away, trust me, I'm an expert on it!
