Shadows

A shadow is an absence of light. It is not a reflection, even though it is often the same shape as the object.

I designed a rainbow to create a shadow. I used carboard, paint, cotton wool and a kebab stick. On the rainbow, I made the clouds and the sun.

The sun is a very bright natural source. The picture shows how the shadow was created during the day. The sun's position in the sky affects the length of the shadow.

Opaque objects make dark shadows. The sun, lamps, flashlights and fire are all sources of light. Shadows need a light source and an object. In this picture a lamp was used to create a shadow during the night.
