MICROSOCIETY

week 1

First of all, what is Microsociety?

Microsociety is activity that you do in Year 5 where you make your own society; or country, if you please. You work with what you've got to get more so you can build up your country.

What did you do in week 1?

We played a very difficult game called the Shape Game. There was 6 groups of 5 and each group started with a folder with different objects in. I was in group E.

THE RULES:

-Only use what was given to the groups

-Work with your teammates, not on your own

HOW TO GET POINTS:

10cm diameter circles- 10 points

10cm square- 5 points

Counters- 5 points

WHAT HAPPENED:

We teared open our folder, revealing paper and a pencil. We thought we were all set, with the best set-up ever. We were wrong. One group had a compass and a ruler! Then, all of a sudden, a group came up to us. They said; 'Can we have some of your paper, we don't have any'. I looked over to their desk and saw that it was the truth. I replied 'Sure, only if we can have your ruler.' They said 'Okay!'.

RESULT!!

Then everyone else started trading and we got some scissors, which was essential as you needed to cut out your shapes and hand them in to Miss Edwards, who would make sure they were valid. Sadly, we only had 2 counters and a lot of invalid circles.

WHAT?!!

SAD LIFE...

We ended up with only 10 points... but some groups got nothing so we were lucky...

One group ended up 40 points!!!

We chose a class country name and ended up with...
