European Week for Waste Reduction

Waste reduction is when less material and resources are used to reduce the waste generation and preserve natural resources.

There are several ways of reducing waste like avoiding single-use containers and utensils. Instead we should use re-usable bottles, cups , bags etc. We should also use cloth bags instead of plastic ones. It is important that we re-cycle things and also donate items for second-hand use.

The European Week for Waste Reduction brings together schools, companies and all the citizens to create awareness of ways to reduce waste and make better use of natural resources. This year it will be held from the 21st to the 29th of November 2020. The theme for this year is Invisible Waste. This theme tries to make us all aware of how many resources are used to produce even small items. For example to produce a small smartphone weighing less than 200g in its packaging, it is calculated that a waste footprint of 86kg is produced.
