Journey’s End

At the beginning of the school day on the 15th of November 2018, a small group of us were invited to go and enjoy a rare experience of watching a film and discussing it with the screenwriter- Simon Reed. The journey was smooth, which made us even more eager to watch the movie.

The movie (Journey’s End), was an emotionally uplifting story based on the life of the soldiers who endured the grim and woeful conditions of the trenches in the First World War.

The message the story was trying to deliver was showing what the soldiers had to go through in the hostile world war and that war should never be taken lightly. We all believed that the movie was intriguing and inspiring.

The speech that Simon Reed gave made us feel a connection with the soldiers.

We have written a short letter from Riley to his sister, Margaret:

My dearest sister Marge,

I am writing to tell you about my safe arrival in France. I am afraid I can’t tell you about my location but the commander, Captain Stanhope, is a jolly good fellow. There is a friendly chap called Osbourne but we all call him by Uncle.

It’s a bit muddy here but I’m sure I shall survive, although the food is nauseating. I can’t wait to be reunited with you after this exciting adventure.

Lots of love

Your loyal brother, Riley
